Tararua Tramping Club
TTC Bushcraft instruction
(redirected from TTC.BushCraft)
One of the best ways of learning the skills needed for going into the hills is to get yourself on one of the Bushcraft Instruction courses run by the Club. They're also a really great way of getting to know others who may not yet be club members or are relatively inexperienced.
Bushcraft courses are run each year beginning in early February and continuing through March. They comprise a series of three evening sessions held in the clubrooms, and three weekend trips. We teach a range of bushcraft skills and provide lots of practical information and advice. The practical sessions include a one day field trip focusing on map and compass work, one overnight trip camping in Smithís Creek area and a two night trip planned by the students. We provide a safe and supportive environment with friendly instructors to help you get the most out of tramping in the New Zealand bush.
Who is the course for?
The course is for people who are new to tramping or those with some experience who want to brush up their skills or just build their confidence. Itís also a great way to meet new people. Both club members and non-members are welcome.
What will you learn
Courses are run by experienced people who will provide you with the latest techniques and will cover such things as:
How fit do you need to be?
We cater for most levels of fitness and organise groups for the weekend trips so that people of similar fitness levels are together. Please contact us if you are unsure about your fitness.
The last one of these weekends is always good value. This is the one where you get to plan and "execute" a full weekend trip (in small teams) visiting a series of map references given to you by an instructor.
Naturally, these places are off the beaten track ... but don't worry, your intrepid instructor will make sure you make it out in time for dinner on Sunday night, if by some small chance you become geographically embarrassed. GPSs not allowed!
If you think you might be interested in taking part in the next course turn up on new members' evening, Tuesday 28th January 2014 at 7:30pm for 8pm at the clubrooms, when we will be taking enrolments (bring your $85 course fee).
