The Wednesday Ramble proved to be rather more strenuous and longer than expected for the six members, who did the Kowhai Park loop from the wind turbine. The other Wednesday group of two made the ascent of Papatahi from the Orongorongo, which proved to be more like mountaineering. A 9 hour day. Yachting in the Marlborough Sounds took ten people on a catamaran to the outer Sounds for the weekend, in perfect conditions but not enough wind for sails. The Medium/Fit group spent ten hours exploring the watershed of the Waiotauru, in perfect weather. A great day! 6 members Three members went from Walls Whare, up the Clem Creek spur to the Cone Saddle track, then off track up Cone Peak from where the views of the main range were breathtaking. A long day for a medium trip. The introductory trip from Otaki Forks took 2 ½ hours to Field Hut for 9 interested visitors and three members. They went on up to Table Top, and on their return some went for a swim in the river. The party who went up to Waiotauru Forks had an enjoyable day exploring the river. 7 members, 1 non member Ten cyclists went up the Waikanae River bank track (one puncture) to Reikiorangi and the start of the Mangaone for lunch, then along that track to Te Horo for a coffee stop, down to the beach as far as Pekapeka and back to Waikanae . 6 members, 4 non members The Family group went Tubing along the Tauherenikau lower gorge for three hours on a perfect day. 40 members, 4 non members and one dog 81 members – 20 non members |
