Tramping Reports Wednesday 2007 Mar 21 to Tuesday 2007 Mar 27The Wednesday easy trip frim the wind turbine to Red Rocks had 20 members and 4 non members and lots of sun. The weekend medium trip to the Ruahines had trouble arranging a car shuttle and so changed to the Mangatarere valley - Sayers Hut area in the Tararuas. Three members had great weather for a largely off-track weekend. Sayers hut was crowded on the Saturday night. One members and one non-member undertook the work party to Field hut. They had great weather, great views and did a lot of cleaning. They also laid bait against the increasing rat population in the hut. The weekend family trip into the Tauherenikau valley had 14 members (nine children) and thoroughly enjoyed the weekend. The Saturday medium trip had 8 members and one non-member. The navigation went to plan. They report that Whakanui creek is nearly dry and the waterfall is more of a water drip. Four members undertook the medium-fit trip into Mick stream from thew Waitohu valley. As expected they didn't get as far down Mick stream as they expected (!!) and they found no sign of the blazed route from the headwater forks up to Mick which is refered to by Merv Rogers in Tararua Footprints. The Sunday easy trip did the Mangaone walkway from end-to-end in great weather. There were nine members and one non-members. Total 59 members and 7 non members |
