Easter Trips

Eleven people enjoyed the views (through the mist) from Belmont Trig on the Wednesday trip, and another four went up the Rimutaka incline road, then followed a stream up and finding the ridge, which they followed before coming down a spur back to the Incline car park.

Easter trips took two groups to the Paparoa range in Westland where they enjoyed wonderful weather. Hugh Barr took 11 members up onto the tops where they enjoyed the views and bird life: kiwi; wekas, robins and tomtits. They walked through the Fox River gorge, Dilemma creek and Pororari gorge. A very enjoyable trip.

Carol Kelly took 10 members along goldminers’ trails onto the tops of Croesus and down the Moonlight where they camped alongside the ruins of an old stone cottage. They then transferred to Punakaikai and went up the Fox River to stay in the epitome of bivs, the Ballroom, then along the Inland Pack trail up Dilemma creek, Fossil creek and on to the Pororari where their camp was disturbed by the entrance of Hugh’s party.

Another group of four partially circumnavigated Ruapehu, inspecting the damage caused by the new lahar to the Whangeahu River.

Closer to home, in brilliant windless weather, eight people went up to Kime on Friday, Mangahuka on Saturday and Waitewaewae on Sunday. Dave Reynolds reports that scrub has been trimmed back and cleared on some of the saddles, except for Andersons.

One cycling trip explored Golden Bay, and cycled up the Takaka hill and came back down the Rameka walking track as well as other shorter trips. 9 members

The Family group also cycled, the Queen Charlotte Walkway, which they all enjoyed. 12 members

69 people enjoyed TTC trips
