Medium/fit trip - seven members and one non-member went down the lower Tauherenikau gorge to Frith stream but could not find any place to cross the river that was not suitable for mountain goats only. We ended up having to come back out over bump 714. Gorgeous weather. Two members worked very hard and left Cone hut in great condition. They scrubbed the hut “from top to toe”, cut back bush and left plenty of fire wood. Thank you Dave and John. The Sunday trip went up the McKenzie track to Butterfly Creek, then on up Gollans stream and across Hawtrey. They saw Rata in flower, and lots of tuis and fantails – the result of possum control. 6 members, 2 non members |
