Tramping Reports Wednesday 2007 Apr 25 to Tuesday 2007 May 1The Wed 25 April E/M trip had 9 members and 2 non-members for a good trip along the Woburn ridge. The BBB trip was led by Kath Kerr. They started with 6 members and ended with 7 having picked up an extra member along the way. They joined the Anzac day service at Ataturk Cove and had a pleasant day. 5 members set out on a medium weekend trip double crossing of the Rimutaka Range but got thoroughly soaked, failed to reach any of their objectives, and finally sought succour at John Thomson's hut. The Saturday M/F trip had 4 members for a Smith Ck - Marchant Forks - Burn loop in very wet but windless conditions. The Saturday medium trip wisely delayed to Sunday, when Peter took 6 members up yet another 'new' spur to Belmont ridge - down -up a steep climb to Puketirotiro and back to Peter's for afternoon tea. The Sunday family trip had 6 families, 12.5 children!, for a walk along the Rimutaka Incline. It was a long walk and they decided that it is much better on bikes. The Sunday medium trip over the Wakanui and out to Catchpool had 5 members and 1 non-member. It took 7 hours and was an opportunity to practice river crossing techniques as the river was up a bit. The Sunday easy trip into Smith Creek had 2 members and 3 non-members. They had fun negotiating the slips. All together there were 42 members and 4 non-members out on the hills during the week. |
