The Wednesday easy trip Waiwhetu to Days Bay had 10 members. They had a bit of rain but were impressed by the bright orange rata flowers. The Wednesday Medium Wellington Circuit trip led by Bruce Popplewell started with 7 members, peaked at 10, and ended with 5. They did a circuit from the bottom of Ngaio Gorge Road with the furthest point high up on the Karori Sanctuary fence. The cycle trip to the Pohangina valley in the Manawatu had 11 members for a north Pohongina loop on the Saturday followed by a smaller loop around Ashhurst on Sunday, ending with a cafe lunch. 10 members participated in the Waerenga hut workparty on Saturday. The water supply has been restored along with the renewal of the water supply for Raukawa hut, and the footprint for the hut at the new location was marked. The leader says that they experienced 'light' supple-jack whereas another party member describes it as the densest supple-jack he has ever seen. The same members showed a singular lack of confidence in the leader by taking a light-weight fly anticipating being be-nighted. The Sunday E/M trip along the eastern Hutt skyline had 4 members and 3 non-members. Naenae to Wainuiomata Rd was misty and deserted, but the East Harbour Regional Park was crowded in the afternoon. In total there were 56 members and 3 non-members out last week. |
