On Wednesday, the BBB trip found much of interest in their route from the Botanical Gardens to Aro Street. 13 members The Wednesday E/M trip to Dobsons went well, apart from a short, sharp hailstorm. 11 members, 2 non members The overnight trip to Trains hut in the Waitotara was along an easy, muddy track through beautiful bush in good weather. They shared the small hut with 9 trampers from New Plymouth, who had historical knowledge of the area which they shared with our members. 8 members The Saturday medium trip bushwacked up from gully off Whiorau Grove, and spur to Ridge Track. Descended easy spur to True Right branch of Gollans, down to main forks, and main stem to bottom of "Hunters Track". Climbed to east ridge, and along it south to possum line down to Wainuiomata Golf Course – avoided 19th hole. Varied forest, shrubland and scrub communities; views to Mts Matthews and. Tapuaeoenuku. Party of four - all TTC members - 6 hours Three members were joined by a dog at Walls Whare on their trip to Mt Reeves. They returned via Cone hut, and enjoyed the new bridge which was officially opened the previous day. On Sunday 11 members and 3 non members climbed to the Turere Spur from the bridge, to the Whakanui and returned via the river to the Orongorongo track for a good day’s tramping. Over the weekend Alpine Instruction group snow caved under the Pinnacles on Ruapehu. They had beautiful weather, and after sleeping out, climbed to the summit of Paretetaitonga. 20 participants |
