The BusBootsBus Wednesday trip had good weather despite a bad forecast. From Taita shops to Bartons Bush along the Hutt River Trail. 12 members The other Wednesday trip did experience some bad weather in Belmont Regional Park, so kept to the bush as much as possible. 5 members, 1 non member Three members went in to Herepai Hut on Friday night, but on Saturday found the wind too strong on Herepai to continue along the tops, so bush bashed their way to Roaring Stag hut via Ruapai stream. Another 12 members visited Lost Lake on their way to Roaring Stag. The hut was quite crowded, with a group of Boy Scouts there too. New hut now quite popular. Medium/Fit trip: Rough Rimutaka ridges and some inadvertent circular tramping made for a hard day at the office on Saturday. Four members travelled eighteen kilometres in nine hours as they traversed the ridge separating Huia and Narrow Neck streams in the west from the Pakuratahi and Waiorongomai rivers in the east. Good travel when they trusted the animal trails, more difficult when they tried to stay on the ridge. Medium trip: Five members followed Abbots Creek from behind the Rimutaka Summit tearooms to the road bridge. An interesting trip, very steep to begin, with a few windfalls and waterfalls to negotiate, and then pleasant stream travel after lunch. Tararua Lodge was full for the week. Three fantastic days, and three revolting days, weatherwise. Some people skiied Turoa. 31 people |
