2007-10-17

On Wednesday 16 members had lunch at the Wind Turbine. A very successful day.

Over Labour Weekend 8 members went into the Aorangi Range at the Pinnacles and emerged at Kawakawa River mouth, in great tramping weather and in great company, with two nights camping. A hard trip for E/M classification and the members were pleased with their efforts.

The weather on the Tararuas forced a change of plans for five members, who spent a night at Jumbo hut and another at Mitre Flats hut, and almost reached mid King bivvy. They came out via Atiwhakatu

The climbing trip to Tapuae-o-uenuku saw 14 of the 18 climbers at the summit in clear sunny weather. They could see Ruapehu from the hut. A very successful trip.

The weather in Nelson Lakes saw a very successful social weekend for the hut-bound group, with too much ice and snow to proceed to Angelus. 7 members, 1 non member

The Cycling trip based themselves at the Mahana Homestead on Endeavour Inlet - a highly recommended backpackers! Cycled bits of the Queen Charlotte walkway from here, did some walking and kayaking as well - all very relaxing! Weather better than forecast - only a couple of showers on Saturday.

Tararua Lodge had a full complement of 30 for the weekend. They skied on Saturday, but the mountain was closed for skiing on Sunday and Monday because of wind, so walks were a great alternative.
