Tramping Reports Wednesday 2007 Oct 31 to Tuesday 2007 Nov 06

The Wednesday medium trip had 7 members for a trip Waitohu – Mick –Thompson in magnificent weather. They found a colony of native frog tadpoles. The 3 members on the Wednesday cycle ride in Kapiti also enjoyed the weather. They found plenty of new opportunities for futurre trips in the area – mostly avoiding busy roads.

The weekend Southern Crossing had a change of leader. 6 members and 1 non-member had good conditions until Kime hut but then had wind and eventually rain, lots of it. The work party of 7 members to Field Hut had great weather on Saturday and did lots of painting, wood chopping and tidying. The rats seem to have gone. The highlight of the evening was the champagne and the birthday cake with 83 candles. The trip out on Sunday morning was very wet. Still no new bridge over the Waiotauru.

The Saturday M/F split into two parties with those recovering from flu or wanting an easier time opting to do the Pakuratahi-Te Marua ridge walk while another 3 members did a Warren's Saddle - Eastern Hutt gorge - Marchant Ridge -Phillips ridge loop. They found a good animal trail through the Eastern Hutt gorge on the true left which provided surprisingly easy going. Michael Bartlett and his 5 women (all members) had good weather most of the day for their trip in the Rimutakas. The trip went to plan.

The Sunday trip in the East Harbour Regional Park had 5 members and 2 non-members and managed to avoid most of the rain which had largely finished by the time they started. The family trip over the Makara walkway took notice of the weather forecast and cancelled.

In total there was 39 members and 3 non-members.
