Tramping Reports Wednesday 2007 Nov 14 to Tuesday 2007 Nov 20The medium Wednesday trip to Tangata Maunga from Kaitawa Rd, Otaki Gorge,had 6 members. They experienced variable conditions, sunshine and some hail & sleet bouncing off the sandwiches at lunchtimes. The weather also put a few off joining the Wednesday ramble. The word 'mutiny' was mentioned and the 5 members and 1 non-member opted for a low level walk from Karori cemetary to Otari and back via the stream. The M/F weekend trip was changed to a middle Tararua crossing. The 2 members and 1 non-member had magnificent views from Ruapehu to Tapuae-o-uenuku. They relied on public transport, which worked. They report that Mangahuka hut is low on water as the spouting is broken. The easy weekend trip to Totara Flats had 7 members and 1 non-member. Perfect weather but they thought the Totara Creek track a bit rough. 11 members and 3 non-members also enjoyed an overnight trip to Matiu-Somes Island and were joined by 6 families and 'thousands of kids' from the Sunday family trip The 5 members of the Saturday medium trip bashed up the centre spur in Browns Stream, lunched on the ridge and descended Vera's Track. 3 members on the M/F trip had permission to access the Maymorn area from Cloustonville. They visited an old hut, found an old camouflaged camp site and a cleared helicopter landing pad in the water reserve and report that it was too hot to sit in the sun for lunch. On the Sunday the 8 members and 1 non-member on the E/M trip from Brooklyn to Red Rock enjoyed the conditions. There were 8 members and 1 non-member on the botany trip which visited 3 reserves in Ngaio. Lots of plants, 2 lunch breaks and afternoon tea courtesy of Alan, Grahame and Liz. The cycle trip to Sth Wairarapa had 7 members and visited Cape Palliser. A total of 84 members and 8 non-members |
