Tramping Reports Wednesday 2007 Nov 21 to Tuesday 2007 Nov 27Fine calm weather was the uniform report from all parties. Six members enjoyed five days of fine weather in the Kawekas visiting Kiwi Saddle, Kiwi Mouth, Manson Hut, Rocks Ahead, Back Ridge, Kaweka Jctn, and Mackintosh Hut. The trip was rounded off by lunch at the "Chook & Filly" at Maraekakaho. The Wednesday E trip into East Harbour RP had 10 members and 5 non-members. The weekend E/M Holdsworth/Jumbo trip had 4 members and 2 non-members. Conditions were so good that they even contemplated a moonlight crossing. The weekend M trip opted for a Makaka Ck spur - Neill Forks - Neill spur loop. Neill Forks hut is in fantastic condition with new log burner, porch and trees cleared from around the hut. They were 5 members. Three members and one non-member spent the weekend rock climbing at Whanganui Bay, Taupo. They managed to miss most of the Taupo Challenge traffic and climbed 10 routes. Nine families (15 adults & 20 children) camped at Kaitoke and got in plenty of swimming in the river. The 4 members on the Saturday M trip changed the trip to the Reeves track. There was no takers for the Saturday M/F trip. Six members participated in the cycling daytrip. They did the Round-the-Bays circuit withan off-track component thrown in. The Sunday E/M trip into East Harbour RP had 7 members, 4 non-members and 1 dog. They comment that the bush is drying out fast. A total of 81 members and 12 non-members. |
