Tramping Reports Wednesday 2008 Jan 23 to Tuesday 2008 Jan 29The Wednesday trip to Wrights Hill - Red Rocks had 6 members in hot conditions. The weekend Holdsworth- Jumbo had 2 members and 1 non-member. They set out to Jumbo following the mountain racers. They couldn't match the pace of the winner who took 59 minutes to Jumbo and completed the full circuit in 2 hrs 16 mins. Enjoyable company overnight but cold & wet conditions on the tops on the Sunday morning prompted them to retrace their steps out. The Saturday medium trip had 10 members for a traverse of the lower Waingawa gorge. Some voluntary swims and some involuntary. Mix of sun and chilly breezes. Some of them enjoyed the river travel so much that they were in the party of 9 members to visit Waiotauru forks and come back down the river. The water was chilly. Also on Saturday 4 members did a Waikawa - Waitewaewae - Mick loop in warm still conditions. They were unsuccessful in finding any trace of the supposed old marked route 'up Mick stream'. All up 31 members and 1 non-member. |
