The Wednesday trip along old Smiths Creek had trouble keeping to the track, which kept disappearing, but enjoyed the beautiful day, with lunch by the stream, but were not so happy on finding an active wasp nest – lots of stings. 12 members, 2 non members The Ramble the previous Wednesday up Lees Grove were hoping to see the orchids, but it seems they are later this year. 8 members The Medium Saturday group went from Kaitoke up to Warren’s Saddle, down the Golden Road and had lunch at the old derelict hut before climbing up again and down Brown’s Track back to Kaitoke. They also found a wasp nest. 12 members, 3 non members On Sunday a group enjoyed a leisurely walk along the Ridge Track from Kaitoke to Te Marua Lakes. 7 members, 2 non members TTC Unplugged attracted many members to Kaitoke for the tramps, swimming in the river, a barbecue dinner and a very pleasant evening. 39 camped overnight, including four families with young children. Finally, a Workparty at Tararua Lodge was hampered by bad weather, but thanks to the 15 people who attended. |
