On Wednesday 6 members went up the gorge of Belmont Stream to the Speedy's Creek forks using the historical bridle track. Then we took the route (more or less) of the Pareraho track which Te Rangihaeata used when Boulcott's farm was raided. This took us to the Kilmister track which we followed to Belmont Saddle. We returned via the Puke Ariki track as far as the old Coach Road which we followed until the junction of Sweetacres Walkway. People seemed pretty pleased with to traverse new territory. Leader: Bill Stephenson The Wednesday Ramble took 11 members onto Boulder Hill on a calm day, giving wonderful views. It was a great weekend for a most successful True Southern Crossing, for 4 teenagers and 7 non teenagers, coming out over Bull Mound and Cone Saddle. The Saturday medium trip went up Harveys Track from the old 5 Mile, onto McKerrow where they had lunch, then continuing along the top and coming out over Crowther. A good day for 4 members, 1 non member Sheena led ten members through some lovely bush which gave them an opportunity to botanise along the Hawtry Spur. They finished with coffee and ice creams at Days Bay. Mary’s Sunday afternoon outing along the City to Sea Walkway gave them great views of the city, and was enjoyed by 4 members and 1 non member. Bushcraft 3 had four groups finding their way around the Tararuas by map and compass on an overnight excursion to experience “real” tramping. Two groups visited Powell Hut and Holdsworth, returning down the old Gentle Annie track. |
