Tramping Reports Wednesday 2008 Mar 26 to Tuesday 2008 Apr 01

Last Wednesday's BBB trip had 11 members - they did part of the Eastern Walkway on a beautiful day. On the same day 13 members and 2 non-members visited the proposed Puketiro windfarm area. The dead calm conditions would have been no use to the wind farm.

The trip to the Livingstone Mtns ...

The Tararua Lodge trip (18 members, 2 non) had a wonderful day on the Tongariro Alpine Crossing (along with thousands of others including 75 pupils and parents from Ferndale School in Blenheim).

The family trip to Taranaki did not run because it was mid-week and outside the school holidays. The trip to Trains hut in the Whanganui did not run.

On Saturday 6 members did the whole town belt (Oriental Parade - Mt Albert - Berhampore Golf Course - City to Sea Walkway - Epuni St Gully - Polhill gully - Adams Tce gully - Botanic Garden - Tinakori Hill - Queens Park) that is 18km in just under 9 hours.

Four members set out to do a Bucks Rd - Taits strm - Mt Tauherenikau off-track circuit but 6 wasp stings in and hour prompted them to abandon the trip and opt for an on-track Walls Whare - Makaka Ck - Cone Saddle circuit instead. That didn't help any as one member of the party got a further 4 stings from a nest close to the track between Makaka Ck and Cone Saddle. The wasps won.

The Sunday Mt Reeves-Coal Ck trip did not run owing to heavy rains.

41 members and 2 non-members.
