Tramping Reports Wednesday 2008 Apr 9 to Tuesday 2008 Apr 15On Wednesday 5 sodden trampers in the sodding rain visited Chilly stm and Kakanui. On the same day the 13 ramblers in the Catchpool had good weather. Over the weekend 2 members and 1 non-member negotiated High Ridge and managed to stay on the track all the way from Flaxy Knob to Totara Flats. Another party of 5 members and 3 non-members took the normal route to Totara Flats. There was about 70 people in the hut but it coped (not so sure about the toilets). 6 members did a South Saddle Mukamuka Ocean Beech Wharepapa Papatahi loop, spending the night at Baines hut after a 7 hour day in glorious weather. 14 members participated in Snow IV - Crevasse Rescue on the Mangaehuehu glacier. 25 members were involved in a work party to Tararua Lodge. The family trip to Raukawa Lodge had 16 people in 5 families. They had lots of fun but not a lot of sleep. On Saturday 5 members explored the upper Grace's stream including a beautiful gorge up to the very top forks, ending the day with a very convivial happy hour at the Hanify residents. 3 members found some new unexplored (for them) territory in the Makorikio stream west of Panatewaewae. There are some well marked tracks in the area. On Sunday trip was a 4 hr 20 dash Takapu Rd Belmont trig Round Knob circuit with 12 members participating. 106 members and 3 non-members. |
