The yachting expedition to Fiordland was enjoyed thoroughly by 10 members and 2 non members. Most mastered the sea conditions with the help of compulsory medication and enjoyed the wonderful scenery and history. Snorkelling with baby seals was amazing and several members were initiated into the Fiordland Autumn Swimming Club at Puysegar Point. Steward Island was wonderful. Some kayaked and some did some light tramping there. The Wednesday Easy trip didn’t reach Baine’s Hut, but decided they had gone far enough half way along the Big Bend track. 12 members But the Medium Wednesday trip did reach Cone Hut for lunch as planned. 3 members 2 non members Four members on the M/F trip spent 9 ½ hours in the Whakanui area. The Sunday E/M into Gollans Valley had 6 members, no rain and lots of interesting fungi. Fourteen people made the trip to the Pouakai Range in Taranaki and had glorious views of the mountain on a beautiful day. Several did the side trip to Bell Falls. On Sunday it was cold and breezy out over Maud and Henry. Half of the party were ex Bushcraft and were very well trained by the instructors! |
