On Wednesday 17 people had what was at times a slightly malodorous trip along Cattle Ridge, evidence they thought of some successful trapping. Otherwise a very enjoyable and sociable trip. The Saturday trip set out in light rain along the Sledge Track (a new route for many) south of the Wainuiomata River, then climbed off track to the top of the ridge to join Solomon’s Track which led them to the old Whakanui Track. They were fairly sodden by then, so elected to make their way back to the Whakanui track and out. 7 members On Sunday 7 members enjoyed the walk along the Orongorongo Track, intending to visit Waerenga Hut on its new site, but found the river not safe to cross. Alpine Instruction on Ruapehu was wet on Saturday and snowy on Sunday. They achieved all targets. 11 students, 6 instructors, 3 cooks and 3 skiers at the lodge. The skiers had a full house for the week at Tararua Lodge. They had 2 ½ days of beautiful weather, and skied every day, with good to icy snow. Lots of fun. |
