Tramping Reports Wednesday 2008 Aug 6to Tuesday 2008 Aug 12Wednesday 6 August to Tuesday 12 August 2008 The Wednesday easy trip to Haywards Reserve Goldmine had splendid weather. The leader wishes to apologise to Dave Burtonwood for underestimating the steepness of the descent. The E/M trip to Colonial Knob had 9 members and managed a bit of tramping between tea breaks. The weekend ascent of Mitre did not run owing to weather and numbers. The Waerenga work party had 11 members, 7 of whom stayed over in the hut. Worked on the longdrop, concrete pad for the steps, emergency exit, finished the internal lining. The river was cold and a bit of a challenge. The ski week had 6 members and 15 non-members. The weather was mixed but every day was ski-able. Chains and shovel needed on the road. The ski weekend had 25 for 2 days of superb skiing in calm, fine weather. The 5 members of the M/F trip transfered to Sunday to climb Waitewaewae peak and traverse the ridge to the east. The snow started at 400m asl and was fresh and crisp. A fine, still day except for the lunch break when it snowed. A family group of 12 members did the Tane's track loop in Tunnel Gully, postponed from the week before. The Sunday E/M trip to McKerrow had 5 members. They report a lot of damage and held an Olympic quiz on the way home. Total of 63 members, 36 non-members |
