Tramping Reports Wednesday 2008 Aug 27 to Tuesday 2008 Sept 2The Wednesday E/M trip to Gollans valley had 9 members, wet bush, 12 stream crossings (all to big to jump) but no rain. The BBB Buckley Rd to Lyall Bay had 4 members, rain and wind. There was only 2 members for the weekend Cone/Totara Flats trip. Somehow they managed to miss the Cone Ridge and ended up on top of Neill instead and had an unscheduled camp out on Neill. The Saturday M/F trip had 12 members. Lovely weather all the way to Field but a biting wind on Tabletop and cloud on the high tops encouraged them to drop down Rae Ridge which took 5 hours. There is a lot of storm damage on Judd Ridge and Rae Ridge and a huge slip just south of the Camp ground on the Waiotauru valley track. The Saturday medium trip did not run as the leader was not available. The weekend skiing had about 25 people at the lodge. The Sunday E/M trip had 12 members and 4 non-members. The good weather allowed half of them to do Benge stream on the return leg while the other half returned to Kaitoke via the ridge track. Total 59 members and 9 non members |
