Tramping Reports Wednesday 2008 Sept 03 to Tuesday 2008 Sept 09Wednesday: The E trip over the Hawkins Hill circuit had 20 members and 1 non-member. The weather was not good, but they had an enjoyable day. The M trip up the long ridge to Mt Barton, and back down the Little Akatarawa Stream had 7 members. There was a lot of fresh pig rooting, in fact it looked from the fresh prints as if the pigs were just a bit in front of them most of the way. The ground was very soggy and littered with fallen foliage. Saturday: The M/F trip saw 3 members exploring flat-topped ridges inland from Te Horo. Unfortunately the compass did a couple of 180 degree flips, and they ended up retracing their steps with some difficulty. The M trip had 5 members. The weather was too wet for the planned route, so they did Dobsons - Smith Creek. They had beautiful snow on the tops, and snow falling, too. Weekend: The E/M trip to Tauherenikau and Tutuwai hut was cancelled due to lack of interest - the same trip may be rescheduled a bit later in the spring next year. Three members did the Dundas circuit. They had snow and strong southerlies on Cattle Ridge on Saturday, followed by sun on the tops on Sunday. Ski: The Ski trip 5-6 Sept had 28 members and 3 non-members. They had excellent weather and good snow. Sunday: The E trip Eastbourne-Pt Howard had 11 members, who enjoyed a delightful day. Total 77 members and 4 non members |
