Tramping Reports Wednesday 2008 Sep 24 to Tuesday 2008 Sep 30Wednesday: The E/M trip to Muritai Track etc was cancelled: due to bad weather and the bus strike, only the leader and one other turned up. They checked at the start of the track to ensure they hadn't missed anyone, then hastened to a nearby cafe. Trip to be re-scheduled on the next Fixture Card. The BBB trip to Tinakori Hill and Wilton Bush was enjoyed by all, though windy on top. 8 members, 2 non-members. Saturday: The M/F trip went mostly according to plan though the ridge turnoff on the return to the eastern hutt is not obvious with some major windfalls in this area. Party went down the next ridge along which provided a few navigational challenges at the lower levels before finally hitting the main track about 200 meters upstream of the swing bridge. With 3 major climbs over 8h and 45 minutes day provided a solid workout. 2 members, 1 non-member. Weekend: The Medium trip to Holdsworth-Sayers was physically and navigationally challenging, but enjoyed by a strong party of 5 members. Day 1 was cold with a gale blowing, day 2 was beautiful. The E/M trip to Sunrise Hut did not happen due to lack of support. Instead, 6 members went to an impromptu work-party at Waerenga and got a lot done, including showing a party of 14 how to do river crossing. The Orongorongo went up 18 inches overnight. Sunday: The E/M trip to Cooks, Hydro Saddle and back via Wainui Stream met more water than usual in the stream after rain overnight, but all enjoyed the glorious day. 11 members, 4 non-members. Total 32 members and 7 non members |
