Tararua Lodge
29th December 2014
This year an enthusiastic group of people enjoyed tramping in the Ruapehu area based at the lodge. The first group arrived on Monday 29th and were joined every day by more. By New Year’s Eve there were 18 celebrating the end of 2014 and welcoming 2015 at a retro themed party. New Year’s day saw our maximum number of 21 for dinner. The weather was kind, there was very little wind and trips of varying difficulty were arranged every day . A group climbed up Pinnacle Ridge from the Chateau to above Broken Leg Gully, others visited Taranaki Falls, Whakapapaiti Hut circuit, Tongariro River Trail, Mt Ngāuruhoe, Tongariro Crossing, Mt Tongariro and return via ridge to Mangatepopo Hut (see photo p. 20), Crater lake and The Skyline Walk above Te Huehue valley. There was something for everyone. We had several people who had not been to the lodge before and several non-members. Thanks to everyone who came for making it such an enjoyable trip. CK
