Tararua Tramping Club - Club Nights
Tuesday is our regular club night. Meetings are held in our clubrooms in Moncrieff Street, off Elizabeth Street, off Kent Terrace.
We welcome new faces at our meetings, and there are always club members available to provide newcomers with information and any answer questions they may have.
Forthcoming Meetings
| 7 February | Rambles in the Richmond Range
Cathy Wylie recounts the TTC Labour weekend 2011 trip from the Pelorus river, up Conical Ridge and the serious-sounding Fixed Wire to Mt Fell, and down to the Wairau Valley. Mary Inglis and Liz Martin describe a much more gentle trip into Lake Chalice and up to the newly christened "Little Old Man." |
| 14 February | Rafting the Clarence
In November TTC members sped down 286 km of the full flowing Clarence River enjoying the rapids, rock formations, lupin fragrance and many more delights. |
| 21 February | Mounds of Misery in North Canterbury
Come and hear about Brian Dobbie's complexities negotiating access through high country stations to tramp to the Mounds of Misery. Lots of things happened on this five day tramp. Was it worth it?? Come and find out. |
| 28 February | Un trek en-mass autour du massif
In July and August 2011, HVTC member, Dennis Page went on his first OE to Europe. Part of the trip was on a FMC travel club tour around the Mt Blanc Massif. Encompassing three countries; France, Italy and Switzerland and a distance of over 160 km through spectacular alpine scenery, the Tour du Mount Blanc has grown to become one of Central Europe's premiere trekking attractions. How has the region coped with such pressures and can conservation tourism in NZ learn from the tourism dynamics in this region? As well as the TMB, tonight's talk will also show case other regional highlights such as the Aiguille du Midi and the Mer de Glace. |
| 6 March | Christmas trip melody
Showcasing the variety of trips TTC members have enjoyed over the summer break. Please contact Mary Inglis on 383 6562, or Liz Martin on 938 6311, if you would like to give a short presentation. |
| 13 March | Investigating the Environment
Dr Jan Wright, the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment, will inform and up-date us about indigenous biodiversity and discuss the benefits of 1080. This will be a lively topic with diverse opinions. |
| 20 March | Travelling with the locals
Brent Harrison had an interesting time biking in China, the way most Chinese people travel and will give us insight into life in our Asian neighbour. |
| 27 March | Megamania caving in Kahurangi
Simon Davis was part of week long caving expedition organised by WCG and NSG that had lots of excitement underground. This is caving in a remote and unspoiled part of New Zealand at its best. |
