The four of us Alan Wright, Tim Stone, Mary Kane and Peter Barber had a grand time in the Tongariro National Park in early January. We had all kinds of weather, greatly varied terrain, and excellent huts with not too many fellow trampers.

Alan Knowles joined us at Blyth Hut, bringing in the necessaries including a bottle of very nice white wine, then gave us a ride in his van up the Ohakune Mountain Road the following day, and accompanied us to Mangaturuturu Hut. In the end, Peter and Mary went home after the Ruapehu tramp, so Alan and Tim did the Tongariro circuit on their own, but all in all it was a great summer tramp.
