Carol Kelly’s Ski Weekend
18th and 19th September
Ruapehu’s rapidly retreating snowline did little to deter a lodge-full of club members enjoying a fabulous weekend on Mt Ruapehu, 18/19 September. It was a case of ‘the higher you go, the better it gets’. The skiers enjoyed spring snow on the Far West, two climbers scampered up the Pink Floyd Buttress on the Pinnacles and the ski touring contingent ventured up and down both the Whangaehu and the Mangatoetoenui Glaciers. Some of those without skins plodded up to the top of Pinnacle Ridge at the end of each day to enjoy the extended run back to Hut Flat.
