David Castle, Colin Cook and Dave Grainger went Cone crazy.
Leaving the dark Waiohine-Totara Flats track at Makaka Creek, we had a happy hour of shin-deep stream bashing in light showers and occasional sun. No sign of the 35 knot southerly.
The crew easily dispatched the 800m spur to Cone with the help of ice axes! The pointy one was found in wet snow and a wee breeze.
Returned to a sunny swingbridge via Cone Saddle and ridge track for a total time of 7.5 hours. Celebrated a good day's work with tea in Greytown!
