Mount Tapuaenuku Trip report

Labour Weekend October 2013

Six keen mountaineers were turned back at the first crossing of the Hodder River which was in spate from a big snow melt, from warm North-westerlies and a heavy rain event.

Plan C was invented and executed with precision, after discarding the Plan B alternative to Mt Pinnacle. This was a jump to the Kaikoura seaward ranges, a fast walk up to the hut on Mt Fyffe near Kaikoura on the Saturday afternoon, and a visit to Saw Cut Gorge on Sunday afternoon, followed by an early return to Wellington that night.

An enjoyable and sociable, but not so strenuous, weekend was had by all. ''
