Hunting for the Snowy River Hut, Eastern Waiotauru
Jan 28 2015
I led a trip up the Eastern Waiotauru (Snowy River) with the intention of locating Snowy River Hut. There were nine in the party. Once past the bridge and overgrown logging track on true left of river, two of the party took a logging track up the true right of the river. The rest of us took the river route and waded or swam through the necessary pools. A gorgeous day and the water was refreshing. We located the hut and took photos to prove it. What a huge stinging nettle bush right by it- Toilet stops in the night could prove extremely painful. Had lunch and returned. This time three members took the logging route and the remainder came back down the river, ending with a swim just before getting back on to the track. Lovely trip - 8.45 am to 6pm.
Party members: Tricia French (leader and scribe), Bill Wheeler, Lynne White, David Ogilvie, Wayne Perkins, Janette Roberts, Susan Guscott, Marg Pearce, Barry Durrant.
