Youth Programme ‘Bombs’ Waiopehu Hut
The Youth Programme filled the club van and headed to Poads Rd. We had to walk from the bridge due to the weight restrictions. The students spent the day walking to Waiopehu Hut, in the mist and through the mud. We didn't see the hut until almost at its door. The evening was spent playing cards and telling ghost stories. One boy ate 7 sausages. In the morning only half the students needed encouragement to get up (dragging student in a sleeping bag off the bunk) the rest had beaten the adults up. A bit of geocaching was played as well. After breakie and a massive clean up we headed back down on a clearer day. One boot fell apart and duct tape was used to reunite the boot. After a few hours we were back at the van, with the students wishing the trip had been for more days.
