Belmont Regional Park
Wednesday 29th August
There was a great turnout for this trip despite the showery weather forecast. 12 of us gathered for introductions at Oakleigh St car park for a tramp into Belmont Regional Park. as we set off we were joined by two more, delayed by traffic.
We tramped down to Korokoro dam and then on up the other side of the circuit but after morning tea took the route to Stratton St. That track drops to Korokoro Stream but then starts climbing, maybe a bit much for an easy trip. There are many steps and it reaches a great height before it comes out in the open to views of farmland. It's a steep descent then, to the very pleasant meandering stream in the valley. After a walk up stream picnic table can be found. They would have been lovely for lunch on a fine day but we retreated to the bush to avoid the showers.
Imagine our surprise just as we were looking for a lunch spot we met up with Trish Gardiner-Smith. She had been late to join the tramp because of the fatal tunnel accident, causing traffic jams. She guessed our route and had been right over Belmont Trig before she found us!
We retraced our steps after lunch and completed the circuit back up to Oakleigh St. It took just over 4 hours including stops. 15 members.
