Thorndon Old Heritage Walk
2018-09-05 Wednesday
With the prospect of inclement weather from the south the leader hatched a plan centred in her home turf of Thorndon, based on an old Heritage Walk brochure.
Eleven trampers met in Bolton Street, went through some interesting parts of the cemetery, then via Anderson Park to the Met Office to see a 1984 wall sculpture “Tawhirimatea” by Cliff Whiting. Bush meanderings in the Bot Gardens then coffee at Leafee in Tinakori Road. A few people left us before the tough stuff.
A steep scramble up a bikers’ track on Te Ahumairangi followed, Peter R headed down to Trellisick Park, his home turf, and the rest of us made an off track descent to the leader’s house for lunch out of the cold.
Four of us followed the heritage route after lunch, enjoying the early architectural styles. By 2.45 there were only two of us, but we thought the other nine had missed the best bit. An interesting day and not too wet at all.
