Waerenga Adventure: Youth Trip
23rd/24th November 2019
The sun was shining as we made our way down the track from the Catchpool Valley car park. We walked to the midway bridge and stopped for a bite to eat. Before we knew it we had arrived at Waerenga Hut. The walk was easy and peaceful.
With such a hot day, we looked forward to getting to the hut so we could swim in the river. We dipped into swimming holes as we walked towards the Mt Matthews turnoff, meeting other people on the way. Under the clear starry night, we sat around the fire and roasted marshmallows, though the people further down the river out-fired us - theirs burned for ages!
After a restful sleep we set off again, and walked the harder track back, which was slightly longer but had a rewarding view. Soon enough we arrived at the car park once more, satisfied and tired.
