Wellington Skyline E/M
Wednesday 29 September
Thirteen members collected together in Broderick Rd, Johnsonville on a superb morning to begin our Skyline trip. We welcomed two new members who had recently joined the club and it was great to have Carol back amongst us as we proceeded to the end of Truscott Street. The southern track, with its 500+ steps through a few redwood trees and pleasant bush, took us directly up to the Skyline. We continued on around and up to Mt Kaukau where it was on the breezy side at the top. Splendid, crystal-clear views were well admired by all as we moved on south to find a sheltered spot for morning tea.
After continuing along the higher ground we said goodbye to Kerry at the top of Bells Track, then on and over the stile above Otari-Wilton’s Bush for lunch. Once nourished, we travelled through scrubby and then lovely bush as we sidled around toward the south. Diana, Carol, Sally and Paddy departed at the turnoff to Otari. The remaining eight continued around and steeply down through the bush and into the northern end of the cemetery. By then it was 2.05 p.m. Consensus decided it was time to head toward the cemetery gates, where we walked out to Karori Rd and the bus. Those heading to the Eastern suburbs remained on the bus while the others transferred and were back in Johnsonville a few minutes after 3 p.m. A taste of my kombucha and a snack to round off the day for the three who made it back to my place!
