Te Whiti Riser backwards E
Wednesday 22 September
The trip was down as ‘The Te Whiti Riser backwards’, and no, we did not walk backwards! Although in some places it might have been an advantage!
Leaving Epuni Rail Station, we travelled to Waddington Drive where we joined the Waddington Winder Track, which is still under construction. It generally follows the northern side of the Summit Road Firebreak and is gentler than the firebreak. The weather eased when we started out but got a little unkind when we started along the track, making it even more slippery in parts. Partway up the track we found a little shelter (not man-made) to have morning tea. On reaching the summit, we were put off stopping for lunch by the wind and rain. Lunch was eaten partway down the Te Whiti Riser when the rain had eased, but the rain decided that the lunch break was to be rather short.
On reaching the flat, most caught the train from Waterloo to Epuni to pick up cars.
Besides recording emergency contact numbers, we collected direct contact numbers for rapid contact tracing.
