Tramping Reports Wednesday 2008 Sept 10 to Tuesday 2008 Sept 16
Wednesday:
The Ramble from Petone to Lower Hutt along the river trail had 17 members who enjoyed the walk.
The Easy/Medium trip along Eastern Hutt Ridge ...
The Medium round trip to Square Knob was a pleasant trip on good tracks. Views from the top, and the rain held off till they were nearly back in Wellington. 6 members and one non-member.
Saturday:
The Saturday Medium trip took a different route to the planned one. 6 members went in at Kowhai St and enjoyed a vigorous 5-hour walk.
The Saturday Medium/Fit trip followed the Mangahao-Makahika section of the Te Araroa Trail (opened in February) from Poulton Rd to Blackwoods Stream, and return. It was very wet! 5 members.
Weekend:
On the Medium trip to the Raglan Range (12-15 Sept), Five members had glorious weather. Lees Creek hut is a lovely hut in a great setting - and warm, which was a good thing as there was 6 inches of snow around the hut. Deep snow and lots of snow damage to the trees meant that they never managed to get higher than about 1500m but they did get into the cirque basins of both branches of Lees Crk. About 23 degree temperature in the Wairau valley on Monday.
The Fit trip Holdsworth-Mitre was cancelled due to illness of the leader.
Sunday:
The Easy trip to Red Rock was postponed until next Sunday 21 Sept.
The Medium trip to Walls-Cone Saddle-Waiohine River had 5 members and 1 non-member. It was a really lovely day, 10/10. They heard and saw a kaka flying above the canopy, and saw signs of kaka feeding - stripped bark and suchlike.
Ski:
The ski weekend and interclub ski races had 17 members and 7 non-members. Saturday had some cloud, but Sunday the weather was good.
Instruction:
Alpine Instruction Snow 3 was attended by 14 members.
