Wednesday: Marg Pearce’s trip up Ozzie’s Track and half of Gable End was cancelled. The forecast for the Ohau area was very wet, and almost as wet for Plan B up Mt Wainui. Only two others were willing to go ahead; one had no transport and the other had the greatest distance to come and was happy for the trip to be cancelled. Those heavy showers we are getting can utterly soak even well-prepared trampers, and the heaviest of the rain was forecast for mid-morning to early afternoon, so not the best. Sue Boyd said “I can confirm that it is raining heavily and steadily on Kapiti Coast!“ Diana Barnes. This trip was supposed to go round the perimeter of Zealandia. As it was tipping down with rain at the appointed start time, we did a shorter and more sheltered tramp in Otari instead. There were five members and one non-member on the trip.

Mark Moorhouse’s planned EM trip was to be in the Te Kopahou Reserve: a climb from the beach near the old quarry up to Hawkins Hill, then back down to Red Rocks (Pariwhero) via the Radome track and back out along the beach road. A route that is 100% exposed to the elements! But the weather was atrocious, heavy rain and strong winds, so at the meeting point we agreed to go somewhere more sheltered. We drove to Otari/Wilton Bush and walked the Blue trail, then started up the Yellow trail. At the Flax Clearing the rain had all but stopped and the wind was not bad, so we decided to walk up to the Skyline ridge. We did that then came back down via the Kohekohe track and Blue trail. We had a hot cuppa and bite to eat at the Troup lawn shelter then went home. We had at least made some use of our legs on this unpromising day. Five members

Saturday : Peggy Munn and Charlene Lim's planned trip to Mt Wainui suffered a setback when the leader had not fully recovered from an ailment. And then there was the weather!!! Two people with nothing better to do than guess wind speed and snow levels decided on a breath of fresh air on Colonial Knob. Setting off from Raiha Street in full storm gear up the road, we were soon suffering from our own personal tropical climates despite the air temperature of 5 degrees. Once we emerged at the top of the Five Pines track our personal climates adjusted to the bleak conditions and with no lingering we trotted (sometimes sideways) over the knob and down to the Youth Camp track. Lunch was actually enjoyed on a seat beside a waterfall before we returned to our cars. It was a surprisingly good trip. Two members

Sunday: Alison and Bill Stephenson, undeterred by the cold wet weather of the previous 24 hours, three members did a circuit in the Belmont Regional Park from Oakleigh Street and enjoyed morning tea with sunshine and views of the snow on the eastern hills from Belmont trig.

Family trip : Mountain biking to Wainuiomata was pospoded due to unsuitable conditions.

Weekend : Maxims Ski trip couldn’t reach the Lodge so stayed below the mountain, Whakapapa closed on Sateruday, but lots of skiing enjoyed on Sunday 18 members
