Fly-by-wire gully, Maunganui etc, Cone, Skyline

Wednesday 3rd

Backyard Cafe, Plimmerton lunch Michelle Paterson

There were seven of us at a very busy cafe in Plimmerton.  Three were in their 90s and the rest of us in our 80s! We enjoyed it.

Fly-by-wire gully and loop track EM Ken Fraser

9 E/M trampers on the trip which lasted 4 hours. Great views and an exciting drop onto the Hill Road down a chute.

Akatarawa Forest Park M David Ogilvie Twelve members left from the Maungakotukutuku car park, up Perhams Rd and Titi Rd where some members made their first ascent.  From there we dropped down the Devil’s Staircase to lunch beside the Akatarawa River West.  After lunch we walked up the river in perfect conditions until we reached a spur that took us to a 613 m bump half way between Titi and Maunganui,  then walked down a spur back to the carpark, making it a 7 h 20 min day. Cone off-track SF David McNabb Eight members set off from Walls Whare in cloudy but warm weather along the Lower Waiohine Track to the first small side stream past Clem Creek. From here we headed off track up the spur. Messy at first with supplejack, the spur opened out to become a pleasant climb through large rata and rimu, and matai. After following the Cone Saddle Track briefly from Pt 572 we continued up the spur direct to Cone. Good views , and not too windy. We returned on the main track via Cone Saddle. Time taken 8¼ hours including breaks. Topo Map

Sunday 7th

Skyline walk from Johnsonville to Karori EM Muriel Christianson

Muriel Christianson led a trip with six TTC members and one non member.  The trip ran from Johnsonville over Mt Kaukau, past the Crow’s Nest, continuing along to Johnston Hill and through to Karori.  Initial rain and heavy clouds to start, howling winds in places, but also  sunny and hot where the track was sheltered.

Total 42 members and 1 non member
