‘Rata Ridge’ trip led by Muriel Christianson, Sunday 3/08 4M
We assembled at 9.00 am at the entrance to the Lees Grove Track in Wainuiomata. We climbed to the junction with the Rata Ridge Track, then proceeded up past the Mt Lowry markers to the junction with the Main Ridge Track for a morning tea break. The weather was cool but calm, allowing for a pleasant view over Wellington Harbour. From there we explored along the Main Ridge Track to the top of the Puriri Track. We met a number of other trampers and runners along the way. Returning to Rata Ridge Track our lunch break was at Mt Lowry. From there we made our way along Rata Ridge to the top of Fern Gully Track, allowing for a pleasant descent back to Wainuiomata and our cars. Mt Lowry has an elevation of 135 metres. Time for the trip was five hours, with a distance of 6.5 km.
