Wednesday

Warwick Wrightled a trip from the Kaitoke Swingbridge car park. A short walk along the swingbridge track then leaving the track for a short climb and a long sidle above the Hutt River, following a lightly marked but discernable route that to the Putaputa Stream. Travel up the stream was interesting and challenging with logjams and small waterfalls and some wades through waist deep pools. After lunch at the A-frame shelter we climbed in a north east direction up a spur to a long ridge that we followed down in a south-east.direction over spot heights 641 and 642. Near the end of the ridge we turned to the south-west and followed a marked route down to the swingbridge track and back to the car park. 12.78 km 7hours 45 minutes, in cool but fine conditions. Topomap with 8 members.

Liz Martinran an enjoyable day completing the Butcher/Cattleridge circuit in the Remutaka Forest Park. A sunny day with birdsong and great company, Topomap with 9 members.

Peter Nixon led a trip into the hills above the Percy reserve. They hhad a pleasant wolk in unseasonably fine weather, with 4 members

Saturday

'''Peggy Munn led the Saturday medium trip started from Peter Radcliffe’s forest block by the Ohau River, went over the ridge and down into the main tributary of the Waiti Stream. From there we headed up a long spur to Square Knob, had lunch in cool cloud and picked up another footpad that took us down towards the main Waiti forks. From there we headed back upstream, turned off to the ridge and back to the cars, 7 hours, with 6 members.

Sunday

Jenny Lewis led a trip to enjoy the warm, sunny autumn weather to explore part of the Kaiwhawhara stream before climbing to the Te Ahumairangi Lookout and harbour views. We were very pleased that Chris Horne was on the trip as he was able to add bits of history about the walk as well as pointing out a couple tracks that the Leader was unaware of, with 8 members

Weekend

Alan Graham lead a party from Holdsworth Lodge at 11am heading for Jumbo Hut via Atiwhakatu. On the way, learning there were already four or five people staying at Jumbo for Saturday. At 2pm they met with a party of 17 also planning to stay at Jumbo (20 bunks). Wasting no time there Allan urged the group on and some of us arrived just 50 meters head of the 17 person group. Fortunately they changed their minds deciding to stay at Atiwhakatu after a quick visit of the hut and Mt Jumbo. They were mountain runners after all. So there was sufficient room to enjoy our rather excellent four course dinner and were comfortably in bed by 8.30. The weather was not good enough to encourage returning along the ridge so instead a decent was made on the old track down to Atiwhakatu Stream and to the cars arriving there about 4 pm. A tired but happy bunch got to Wellington around 6 pm, with 7 members

Vicki Wogan’s Herepai trip planned for 18-19 May became a Atiwhakatu trip on last weekend. Four members. Lovely trip. Hut crowded, but we got to tick it off. We had much hilarity working out how to use my Canadian bush saw, and in the end we produced beautiful logs with it. Bush and mosses incredibly dry, particularly towards the roadend, with 4 members
