Activity summary: Wednesday 2021 May 4 to Tuesday 2021 May 11
Titahi Bay, south coast, E, Hadley Bond
Topo Map
Starting from the south end of Titahi Bay Beach we ascended the cliff track, observing points of historic interest such as the site of the old MacArthur Seaquarium.
On reaching the old track down the cliff face near the wastewater Treatment Plant we were faced with a challenge for even the youngest of trampers due to significant erosion!
After that challenge the trip was reasonably gentle following the coastline round Komunga Point and on to Little Titahi Bay where we had lunch and the returned using a less challenging (although not without its issues) track up the cliff. The weather was particularly pleasant.
The 13 participants were: Anne and Hadley Bond, Lainey Cowan, Kerry Popplewell, Denise Whetton, Alison Hannah, Helen McNeil, Alan Benge, Peter Nixon, Margaret Jensen, Barbara Ogilvie, Margaret Foden, and Howard Livingston - all club members
Smith Creek spurs, M, Dave Reynolds
Topo Map
23 trampers and Barry's dog Jess left the DoC carpark at Kiwi Ranch around 9am, and enjoyed good weather following some historic and lesser-used tracks in the Puffer-Smith Creek area.
Firstly walking Barry's re-instatement of the the track up through re-generating navtive forest near Kiwi Ranch, then later the spur that leads up from Smith Creek to .539 where lunch was taken.
After lunch some explored Joe Gibbs old route down to the East of .529, wrenching out wilding pines enroute, then retracing their steps followed the old benched track directly South from .529 to the Puffer Saddle. A good day was had by all.
Total: 36 members and 1 non-member (dog) out in the hills
