Topo Map
This was a combined cycle and walking trip to the Parangarahu Lakes area. We met at the south end of Eastbourne and cycled down past the Pencarrow lighthouse to Lake Kohangapiripiri where the bikes were locked up. We then walked along the beach for a while and then up the Cameron Ridge track, crossed a creek and up to the lookout above Lake Kohangatera. From there we travelled to the Cameron creek at the head of Lake Kohangapiripiri, crossed the wetland, around the side of the lake and picked up the track to the top Pencarrow lighthouse, then returned to the parked bikes via Bluff Point. It was a 6 hour day, in nice weather. Using bikes to get there meant that there was then time to walk around the tracks in the area.
Jim Gibbons ( leader), Robin Chesterfield, Christine Whiteford, Jane-Pyar Mautner, Carolyn Jenkins, Geoff Marshall, Marlyn Richards, Robert Munster, Celia Wade Brown, John Dement, Trish Gardiner, Alison Stephensen. (12)
Waiohine peak from Mt Dick, MF, Janette Roberts
Topo Map
Eight members enjoyed sunny calm weather tramping from Mt Dick to Waiohine Peak where we lunched. There have been some markers, two seats and some humorous decoration, such as signage and tramping boots nailed to trees along the route to .632. All new since our last visit. From here there are few markers as the route climbs up to great views over the main range, and eventually Waiohine itself. The trip took a little under 8 hours and we were pleased to be back at the cars in plenty of daylight. Thanks to 4WD owners David McNabb and Peggy Munn.
